Get your credentials evaluated before applying
International nursing degrees require evaluation through a CGFNS-approved credential assessment service before U.S. licensure. Complete this early, Oregon Board of Nursing won't process your RN application without it, and Legacy Health won't extend an offer without an active or pending license.
Target Legacy's acute care and specialty units
Legacy Health's open nursing roles span ICU, emergency, med-surg, and perioperative settings. Units with persistent staffing gaps are more likely to support sponsorship conversations. Identify high-demand specialties in their current postings and align your application to those specific units.
Understand which visa fits your nursing credentials
Nurses at Legacy Health have come through H-1B, TN, and J-1 pathways depending on nationality and degree type. Canadian and Mexican RNs can explore TN status without lottery exposure. J-1 works for clinical exchange programs but carries a two-year home-residency requirement after completion.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring nursing employers
Not every hospital posting lists sponsorship eligibility upfront. Search nursing roles at Legacy Health specifically through Migrate Mate, which tracks DOL and USCIS filing history so you can prioritize applications to employers with a documented sponsorship track record in healthcare.
Confirm NCLEX passage before your start date
Legacy Health requires a valid RN license for all bedside nursing roles. If you're on F-1 OPT or CPT, your work authorization clock starts at employment, passing NCLEX and receiving your Oregon license before day one prevents costly delays that can affect your status timeline.
Clarify H-1B filing responsibility during the offer stage
When Legacy Health extends a conditional offer, confirm in writing whether their HR team files the H-1B petition directly or routes it through an external immigration attorney. Knowing this early lets you align your cap-subject registration window and avoid missed USCIS filing deadlines.

Find Nursing at Legacy Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Legacy Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, Legacy Health has sponsored H-1B visas for nursing roles. H-1B sponsorship for nurses is viable when the position qualifies as a specialty occupation, which typically requires at least a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. RN roles with BSN requirements meet this threshold. Sponsorship is handled during the offer process, and cap-subject petitions follow USCIS's annual April filing window.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at Legacy Health?
Applications go through Legacy Health's careers portal, where you can filter by role type and location across their Portland-area and Oregon campuses. Identify units with persistent openings, tailor your application to the specific specialty, and address visa sponsorship needs in your cover letter or during the initial recruiter screening call to avoid surprises later in the process.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nursing roles at Legacy Health?
Legacy Health has worked with nurses on H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas. TN is a strong option for Canadian and Mexican RNs since it avoids the H-1B lottery. J-1 suits clinical training programs but comes with a two-year home-residency requirement. F-1 OPT gives recent graduates a short work authorization window while an H-1B petition is prepared.
What qualifications does Legacy Health expect for sponsored Nursing positions?
Most sponsored nursing roles at Legacy Health require an active Oregon RN license, current BLS certification, and a BSN for H-1B eligibility. Specialty units like ICU or OR often require additional certifications such as ACLS or CNOR. International applicants also need a CGFNS credential evaluation completed before Oregon Board of Nursing will process a licensure application.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Legacy Health Nursing role?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN for Canadian nurses can be processed at the border in a single day with the right paperwork. H-1B sponsorship follows USCIS's lottery in March with a typical October 1 start date, though premium processing can accelerate approval to around 15 business days after filing. Browse current Legacy Health nursing openings on Migrate Mate to track which roles are actively recruiting sponsored candidates.
