Align your experience with retail operations scale
Michaels operates hundreds of stores across North America, so COO candidates need documented experience managing multi-site retail operations. Frame your resume around supply chain oversight, store network performance, and P&L responsibility at comparable scale before you apply.
Verify your visa category matches COO sponsorship
Michaels sponsors H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways for senior roles. COO positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules, but confirm your degree field aligns with operations or business management to avoid a USCIS specialty occupation challenge.
Target the Irving, Texas headquarters directly
Most COO-level openings at Michaels are based at or tied to their Irving, TX corporate headquarters. Focus your outreach on that location and connect with their talent acquisition team for corporate leadership roles rather than field or regional positions.
Prepare for PERM early if pursuing a Green Card
Michaels sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 pathways, which require PERM labor certification through DOL before petition filing. For a COO role, PERM can take 12 to 18 months or longer. Start that conversation with the hiring team during the offer stage, not after onboarding.
Use Migrate Mate to identify active COO openings
Retailer hiring cycles for C-suite roles are unpredictable. Use Migrate Mate to filter for COO positions at Michaels Stores that include visa sponsorship, so you're applying to roles where authorization is already confirmed rather than negotiating it after an offer.
Address nonimmigrant intent clearly for TN candidates
Canadian and Mexican nationals applying on a TN visa need to demonstrate the role qualifies under USMCA professional categories. COO roles can qualify under management consultant or related classifications, but your offer letter language and job duties description need to reflect that precisely.

Find COO at Michaels Stores JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michaels Stores sponsor H-1B visas for COOs?
Yes, Michaels Stores sponsors H-1B visas for COO and other senior corporate roles. COO positions generally qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B requirements because they demand a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as business administration, operations management, or supply chain. Your offer letter and job duties documentation will need to clearly reflect that degree-level requirement to satisfy USCIS review.
How do I apply for COO jobs at Michaels Stores?
Applications for COO roles at Michaels Stores go through their corporate careers portal, typically filtered under corporate or executive positions tied to their Irving, TX headquarters. You can also find open COO positions at Michaels that include visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which filters listings specifically for candidates who need work authorization. Tailoring your application to highlight multi-site retail operations experience strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Which visa types does Michaels Stores commonly use for COO roles?
Michaels sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles like COO, as well as TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, they support EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, which involve PERM labor certification through the DOL. F-1 OPT and CPT are less common at the COO level but may apply during transitions from earlier career stages.
What qualifications does Michaels Stores expect for a COO role?
Michaels typically expects COO candidates to bring deep experience managing large-scale retail operations, including multi-site store networks, supply chain systems, and cross-functional leadership. A bachelor's degree in business, operations, or a related field is generally the minimum academic requirement, with an MBA viewed favorably. Prior experience at a comparable retailer in a VP or SVP of Operations capacity is a strong baseline before stepping into a COO-level discussion.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a COO position at Michaels Stores?
For an H-1B, USCIS standard processing runs three to five months after filing, though premium processing can reduce that to roughly 15 business days. TN status for Canadians can be obtained at the border in a single day with the right documentation. If you're pursuing a Green Card through PERM, factor in 12 to 24 months for labor certification before the EB-2 or EB-3 petition is even filed, so those conversations should start early in the offer process.
