Job Description
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field, with strong expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), machine learning, and numerical modeling of engineering systems, energy systems design, testing, & simulation.
The candidate should have solid experience in fluid mechanics or combustion modeling, along with demonstrated ability in data-driven and physics-informed machine learning methods. Strong programming skills in Python, R, MATLAB, or similar languages, and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, are expected. Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments is highly desirable.
The role requires the ability to integrate physics-based simulations with machine learning approaches for prediction and optimization of complex combustion and emission systems.
A key expectation is active participation in external grant development and proposal writing, including NSF and DOE submissions. The candidate is also expected to contribute to and/or lead peer-reviewed publications.
The candidate should have a demonstrated record of research dissemination (e.g., peer-reviewed publications) and strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
The research lies at the intersection of sustainable energy systems, environmental engineering, and artificial intelligence. Biomass energy is increasingly recognized as a renewable alternative to fossil fuels, yet inefficient combustion processes can still produce significant environmental pollutants. This project seeks to develop advanced computational tools that enable better design, control, and optimization of biomass combustion systems to support cleaner energy production.
Energy sustainability for the advanced energy systems, gasification processes, design and testing of various biomass materials and biofuel reactors, renewable energy technologies (fuel cell, solar, photovoltaic, wind turbine module), thermo-fluid flow, numerical modeling and simulation, optical & laser-based diagnostic instrumentation, and feedback control system and data acquisition system, energy storage related technologies.
This position is for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Morgan State University.
