Align your degree to storage infrastructure roles
NetApp's engineering openings frequently require computer science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering degrees. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation status by degree field, so framing your background around systems or distributed infrastructure strengthens your petition.
Target teams building ONTAP and cloud products
NetApp's core engineering work centers on ONTAP, Cloud Volumes, and StorageGRID. Roles on these product lines have historically driven the most sponsorship activity, so tailoring your resume to these platforms increases your odds of landing a sponsoring offer.
Find open engineering roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters NetApp's engineering listings by visa type, so you can see which roles are actively open to H-1B, OPT, or TN candidates before applying, avoiding positions where sponsorship isn't on the table.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Computer science and engineering degrees typically qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you up to three years of F-1 work authorization. NetApp must be enrolled in E-Verify for you to use this extension, which it is.
Prepare for PERM if targeting a Green Card
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship at NetApp requires DOL PERM labor certification before USCIS can adjudicate your immigrant petition. Engineering roles with specialized skills in storage or cloud architecture tend to move through PERM more smoothly than generalist software positions.

Find Engineering at NetApp JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does NetApp sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, NetApp sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company files H-1B petitions for new hires and extensions on an ongoing basis. If you're in the H-1B cap lottery, timing matters: registrations open in March for an October 1 start. NetApp also supports cap-exempt transfers if you're already on a valid H-1B with another employer.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at NetApp?
Applications go through NetApp's careers portal. Before applying, review the job description closely for degree requirements and any language about visa sponsorship availability. Engineering roles at NetApp often specify preferred backgrounds in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or data management. Migrate Mate lists NetApp's open engineering positions filtered by visa sponsorship type, which saves time if you need to confirm eligibility upfront.
Which visa types does NetApp commonly use for Engineering roles?
NetApp sponsors H-1B visas for the broadest range of engineering positions. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT are common entry points for recent graduates in computer science or electrical engineering. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. For long-term permanent residency, NetApp sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, typically initiated after a period of employment.
What qualifications does NetApp typically expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
Most engineering roles at NetApp require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. USCIS requires that the degree field directly relate to the position for H-1B specialty occupation purposes. Roles in storage platform development or cloud architecture often expect hands-on experience with Linux systems, distributed file systems, or cloud provider APIs in addition to the degree requirement.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a NetApp Engineering offer?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B standard processing through USCIS currently runs several months, with premium processing available for faster adjudication. PERM labor certification for Green Card sponsorship typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS filing even begins. If you're on OPT, your work authorization runs concurrently, so coordinating the H-1B cap timeline with your OPT expiration date is a practical priority to discuss with your NetApp HR contact early.
