Verify your nursing credentials transfer correctly
Foreign nursing degrees must clear both state licensure and academic equivalency review before USF can proceed with sponsorship. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency early so your application isn't stalled at the offer stage.
Target USF's academic health campuses directly
USF hires Nursing Instructors across its Tampa health sciences campus and affiliated clinical education programs. Applying through the USF Careers portal and filtering by college or department gets your application to the right hiring committee faster than broad searches.
Understand how H-1B sponsorship works for faculty
Universities like USF file H-1B petitions as cap-exempt employers, meaning positions aren't subject to the annual lottery. You can be sponsored year-round, but your start date still depends on USCIS processing, which typically runs two to four months with standard service.
Align your CV to clinical teaching experience
USF Nursing Instructor roles require documented experience in both direct patient care and classroom or simulation instruction. Highlight specific clinical courses you've taught, student supervision hours, and any curriculum development work to meet the specialty occupation threshold for H-1B.
Ask HR about PERM timing before accepting an offer
If you're targeting permanent residence through EB-2 or EB-3, USF's HR and international services office will need to initiate PERM labor certification separately from your work visa. Confirming that timeline upfront prevents a gap between your H-1B approval and the start of your green card process.
Use Migrate Mate to browse open Nursing Instructor roles
Sponsorship-eligible Nursing Instructor positions at USF aren't always flagged clearly on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for USF roles that support your visa type so you're only applying where sponsorship is already confirmed.

Find Nursing Instructor at University of South Florida JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of South Florida sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Instructors?
Yes. As a public research university, USF qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means Nursing Instructor positions can be sponsored at any point in the year without going through the annual lottery. Petitions are filed through USF's international services office once an offer is extended, and USCIS processing typically takes two to four months under standard service.
How do I apply for Nursing Instructor jobs at University of South Florida?
Applications are submitted through the USF Careers portal at usf.edu. Search by job category and filter for positions within the College of Nursing or affiliated health sciences programs. You can also browse open Nursing Instructor roles at USF that are confirmed for visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you avoid wasted applications.
Which visa types does University of South Florida commonly use for Nursing Instructor roles?
H-1B is the most common pathway for Nursing Instructors at USF, given that teaching in a specialty occupation with a required degree field meets the statutory criteria. USF also supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship for longer-term faculty hires, and J-1 exchange visitor status is sometimes used for visiting or short-term clinical instructor appointments.
What qualifications does University of South Florida expect for Nursing Instructor positions?
Most Nursing Instructor roles at USF require at minimum a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), though doctoral preparation (DNP or PhD) is preferred for tenure-track positions. Active RN licensure in Florida or eligibility to obtain it is required. Clinical specialty experience in the relevant area and prior teaching or clinical preceptorship experience are standard expectations across postings.
How do I handle the visa process timeline when accepting a Nursing Instructor offer at USF?
Once you receive an offer, USF's Office of International Services initiates the H-1B petition. Because USF is cap-exempt, there's no lottery wait, but build in two to four months for standard USCIS adjudication. If you're currently on OPT or another status, confirm your authorized employment end date with USF HR immediately so they can file with enough lead time to avoid a gap in work authorization.
