Frame your credentials around insurance licensing requirements
Most Business Development Manager roles at USI require a state-issued property and casualty or life and health license. Start the licensing process before you apply so your resume signals you're ready to produce from day one, not a liability requiring onboarding delays.
Target USI's regional offices with active pipelines
USI operates through a decentralized regional model, so hiring decisions vary by office. Research which regions are actively posting Business Development Manager roles and prioritize applications there, since sponsorship willingness often depends on the regional leader's budget and urgency.
Clarify your visa type before the offer stage
E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT each have different employer filing requirements and timelines. Raise your visa status early in final-round conversations so USI's HR team can loop in legal counsel before the offer letter is drafted, avoiding delays caused by last-minute compliance reviews.
Align your pitch to USI's producer-first culture
USI evaluates business development candidates heavily on revenue potential. Quantify your existing book of business or client relationships in commercial insurance or employee benefits. Hiring managers are more likely to advocate for sponsorship when the candidate has a demonstrable client network to bring.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Business Development Manager roles at USI
Search Migrate Mate to surface USI Insurance Services listings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. This saves time by narrowing directly to roles where sponsorship is an active option rather than manually screening dozens of postings.
Confirm LCA wage compliance matches your target location
The DOL's Labor Condition Application requires USI to pay the prevailing wage for your specific metropolitan area. Before negotiating salary, check the DOL's wage library for Business Development Manager prevailing wages in your target city so your expectations are grounded in what USI is legally required to offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does USI Insurance Services sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
USI Insurance Services does not have a strong H-1B visa sponsorship track record for Business Development Manager roles. The company more commonly sponsors international candidates through E-3 visas for Australian citizens, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT for recent graduates. If H-1B visa is your only pathway, confirm sponsorship availability directly with the recruiter before advancing in the process.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at USI Insurance Services?
Applications go through USI's careers portal, where Business Development Manager roles are posted by region. You can also find visa-sponsorship-eligible openings on Migrate Mate, which filters USI postings specifically for international candidates. Tailor your application to emphasize insurance industry experience, any existing book of business, and state licensing credentials, since those are the primary screening filters for this role.
Which visa types does USI Insurance Services commonly use for Business Development Manager roles?
The visa types USI has sponsored for business development functions include the E-3 for Australian citizens, the TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals qualified under USMCA, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students or recent graduates in relevant fields. J-1 visa has also been used in limited circumstances. Each pathway has different eligibility rules and employer filing requirements, so matching your situation to the right category matters early in the process.
What qualifications does USI Insurance Services expect for Business Development Manager candidates?
USI typically looks for candidates with a background in commercial insurance, employee benefits brokerage, or risk management, combined with a demonstrated ability to develop new client relationships. A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field is standard. State insurance licensing in property and casualty or life and health is often required or expected shortly after hire, and prior production experience carries significant weight in sponsorship decisions.
How do I plan the timeline for visa sponsorship when joining USI Insurance Services as a Business Development Manager?
Timeline depends heavily on your visa category. E-3 and TN petitions can move relatively quickly once the Labor Condition Application is certified by the DOL, often within a few weeks for TN or a consular appointment window for E-3. F-1 OPT candidates should confirm their OPT expiration date before the offer stage. Build at least four to six weeks into your start date expectations to account for LCA processing and any internal legal review on USI's side.
