ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Adjunct faculty may be considered for courses in areas including, but not limited to:
- Writing and Rhetoric
- Humanities
- Social/Behavioral Sciences
- Mathematics
- Natural Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Studies
- Academic Skills and First-Year Programs
Appointments are part-time and dependent on departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate courses in assigned discipline(s) in accordance with university standards and course learning outcomes.
- Prepare course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
- Maintain regular communication with students and provide timely feedback on coursework.
- Foster an engaging, welcoming, and supportive learning environment for international students from all backgrounds.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress using university systems.
- Adhere to departmental and university policies and procedures.
- Participate in meetings or training sessions as requested by the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in the relevant discipline or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level or relevant professional experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
