Frame your degree around specialty occupation
WSP's Software Consultant roles require demonstrating that your position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Make sure your resume explicitly ties your degree field to the technical deliverables of the role, not just the job title.
Target WSP's infrastructure-facing practice areas
WSP staffs Software Consultants across transportation, energy, and environmental practices. Applying to openings tied to these sectors positions you alongside teams where technical software work is core to client delivery, not peripheral, which strengthens the specialty occupation case.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Software Consultant roles at WSP
WSP posts Software Consultant openings across multiple regions and practice lines. Use Migrate Mate to filter for WSP roles that list visa sponsorship, so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is already confirmed for your visa category.
Clarify cap-subject status before accepting an offer
If you're currently on OPT and need an H-1B, confirm early whether the WSP entity making the offer is cap-subject or cap-exempt. Large consulting firms with university or nonprofit affiliates sometimes have cap-exempt entities, which changes the filing timeline entirely.
Align your OPT end date with WSP's project staffing cycles
WSP typically onboards consultants in alignment with project starts. If your OPT expires mid-engagement, discuss STEM OPT extension eligibility with HR during the offer stage, not after. A 24-month extension requires your employer to be E-Verify enrolled, which WSP is.
Prepare for PERM if you're targeting permanent residence
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, WSP initiates the DOL PERM labor certification process. Gather transcripts, foreign credential evaluations, and employment verification letters before your start date so you're not scrambling when HR opens the case months into your tenure.

Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Software Consultants?
Yes, WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Software Consultant roles. The company files both new cap-subject petitions and transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status. If you're currently on OPT, you'd need to go through the annual H-1B lottery in March for an October 1 start, so timing your offer and application accordingly is important.
Which visa types does WSP commonly use for Software Consultant roles?
WSP sponsors across several visa categories for Software Consultants, including H-1B, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students. For candidates seeking permanent residence, WSP also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the DOL PERM process once you're established in a role.
What qualifications does WSP expect for Software Consultant positions?
WSP's Software Consultant roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field. Consulting-specific experience, client-facing project delivery, and familiarity with infrastructure or engineering software platforms are valued. The degree-to-role alignment also matters for visa sponsorship, since USCIS requires a direct relationship between your field of study and the job duties.
How do I apply for Software Consultant jobs at WSP?
You can browse and apply for Software Consultant positions at WSP directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles with confirmed visa sponsorship. WSP posts openings across multiple U.S. regions and practice areas, so filtering by location and visa type helps narrow to roles that fit your situation. Tailor your application to highlight technical project delivery experience relevant to WSP's engineering and infrastructure consulting work.
How do I plan my timeline if WSP is sponsoring my visa?
The timeline depends on which visa category applies to you. H-1B petitions have an October 1 start date after the March lottery, so your offer needs to be in place before the registration window opens. E-3 and TN processing is faster, typically a few weeks at the consulate. For Green Card sponsorship via PERM, expect the full process to take two or more years from the point WSP initiates filing.
