About the role
As a Principal Product Manager for Platform Engineering, you will define and drive the product vision and strategy for our internal platform offerings, advancing the capabilities that power every Zillow product experience. You will join a broader community of Platform Product Managers and partner closely with teams such as Developer Experience, Data Platform, and Security, ensuring Platform Engineering focuses on the most impactful opportunities and delivers measurable outcomes that move us closer to Zillow’s vision.
You will get to
- Own the strategic direction and vision for Platform Engineering, ensuring objectives align with Zillow’s mission and business goals.
- Drive the end-to-end platform product roadmap—from discovery through launch and iteration—grounded in clear problem statements, defined success metrics, and customer- and business-driven prioritization.
- Build deep empathy for internal developer customers and champion intuitive, reliable platforms that remove friction from their workflows.
- Balance and prioritize trade-offs across cost, reliability, compliance, security, and developer experience in partnership with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Lead product rollouts and enablement to drive adoption of Platform Engineering offerings, using feedback loops and metrics to continuously improve and demonstrate business value.
- Partner with organizations such as Developer Experience, Data Platform, and Security to ensure platform strategy and roadmaps address shared requirements and unlock cross-org outcomes.
- Actively evangelize Platform Engineering best practices and paved paths across Zillow, helping teams discover, adopt, and benefit from standardized solutions.

Frame your portfolio around proptech outcomes
Zillow evaluates PMs on their ability to move real estate metrics, not just ship features. Reframe past work around outcomes like conversion rates, listing engagement, or buyer funnel improvements to signal immediate fit with their product language.
Target teams where sponsorship is routine
Zillow's consumer and rentals product teams have historically filed for sponsored roles more consistently than newer verticals. Research which product areas are scaling and align your application to teams with established hiring pipelines, not experimental units.
Clarify your visa type before the offer stage
H-1B cap timing and F-1 OPT expiration windows affect when you can actually start. Tell your recruiter your authorization status early so Zillow's immigration counsel can sequence the LCA filing and I-129 petition against your available work authorization window.
Confirm the specialty occupation case for your role
USCIS requires H-1B roles to meet specialty occupation standards. For PM roles at Zillow, your degree field should align with the technical or analytical scope of the position. A business degree alone may need supplementing with documented technical coursework or experience.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open PM roles at Zillow
Zillow's sponsored PM openings don't always stay visible long. Use Migrate Mate to filter for current Product Manager roles at Zillow that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're applying to active requisitions, not outdated listings.
Negotiate start dates around USCIS processing timelines
If you're on a cap-subject H-1B, employment can't begin before October 1 of the fiscal year USCIS selects you. Build this constraint into your offer negotiation so your start date is realistic and your offer letter reflects it accurately.

Find Product Manager at Zillow JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Zillow sponsor H-1B visas for Product Managers?
Yes, Zillow sponsors H-1B visas for Product Manager roles. The company works with immigration counsel to file Labor Condition Applications with the DOL and submit I-129 petitions to USCIS on behalf of sponsored employees. PM roles typically qualify as specialty occupations given the analytical and technical scope required, though the specific degree alignment matters and should be confirmed during the offer process.
How do I apply for Product Manager jobs at Zillow?
Apply through Zillow's careers site or find visa-sponsorship-eligible PM openings on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by sponsorship status. Tailor your resume to real estate product outcomes, such as search experience, transaction flow, or listing quality. Zillow's PM interviews typically include product sense, analytical, and cross-functional collaboration rounds, so prepare case studies grounded in consumer marketplace or proptech contexts.
Which visa types does Zillow commonly use for Product Manager roles?
Zillow sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Product Managers, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are supported for students and recent graduates, and Zillow has filed EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa petitions for employees pursuing permanent residence. J-1 sponsorship is less common for PM roles but has been used for research-adjacent positions.
What qualifications does Zillow expect for sponsored Product Manager roles?
Zillow typically looks for PM candidates with a bachelor's degree in a technical, analytical, or business field, though product roles tied to data or engineering partnerships often favor computer science or quantitative backgrounds. Real estate industry experience is valued but not required. Demonstrated ability to own a product roadmap, work with engineering teams, and use data to make prioritization decisions carries significant weight in their evaluation process.
How do I time my application around H-1B sponsorship deadlines?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're targeting Zillow and need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, start your application process in the preceding fall or winter to allow time for offer negotiations and LCA filing before the USCIS registration window. If you're already on OPT, your current authorization period determines how much runway you have before sponsorship becomes urgent.
