Construction Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction worker in Delaware?
The path into construction in Delaware depends on your trade, since the state licenses specific crafts through the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation. Electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians must obtain a state-issued license through that board, while general laborers and carpenters typically enter through a union apprenticeship, such as those run by the Mid-Atlantic Carpenters or IBEW locals active in Delaware, or through direct employer hire after completing a vocational program at Delaware Technical Community College.
Which companies hire construction workers in Delaware?
Employers hiring constructions in Delaware right now include Jobot, Kleinfelder, and K. Hovnanian Companies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's construction market also sees consistent staffing activity from regional general contractors anchored by the Wilmington commercial corridor and state-funded infrastructure projects.
Which Delaware cities have the most construction jobs?
The cities with the most construction openings in Delaware are Wilmington, Dover, and Newark. Wilmington drives the largest share of demand as the state's primary commercial hub, where office, healthcare, and mixed-use development projects concentrate, while Dover's growth as a government and retail center and Newark's proximity to the University of Delaware campus sustain strong residential and institutional building activity.
Are there remote construction jobs in Delaware?
Yes, but they're rare. About 33% of construction openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how fundamentally site-dependent the work is. The roles most likely to have any remote component are construction project management, estimating, and scheduling positions, where document review and coordination work can occasionally be done off-site.
How can I get hired as a construction worker in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a registered apprenticeship, and Delaware has active programs through the Associated Builders and Contractors Chesapeake Shores Chapter and union locals affiliated with the Delaware Building and Construction Trades Council. These programs place candidates in paid on-the-job training without requiring prior experience. Alternatively, laborer and site assistant roles with larger Delaware general contractors serve as a direct entry point, and completing an OSHA 10 card before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over others with no credentials.
Where can I find and apply to construction jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to construction jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and trade, and apply directly through each listing.
