Construction Project Manager Jobs in New Mexico: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction project manager in New Mexico?
Most construction project managers in New Mexico enter the role through a combination of a degree in construction management or civil engineering and several years of field experience as a superintendent, project engineer, or estimator. New Mexico does not require a specific state license for project managers, but employers working on state-regulated or commercial projects often expect candidates to hold or pursue a Project Management Professional or Certified Construction Manager credential alongside familiarity with New Mexico contractor licensing requirements.
How much do construction project managers make in New Mexico?
Construction project managers in New Mexico earn a median of about $104,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $71,830 for the lowest 10% to over $167,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction project managers in New Mexico?
Employers hiring construction project managers in New Mexico right now include CUPERTINO ELECTRIC, JLL, and Mortenson Construction, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Mexico's mix of federal contracts, tribal nation projects, and ongoing energy infrastructure work means demand is spread across both national general contractors with regional offices and locally headquartered firms.
Which New Mexico cities have the most construction project manager jobs?
Albuquerque, Santa Teresa, and Los Lunas have the highest concentration of construction project manager openings in New Mexico. Albuquerque drives the largest volume thanks to its commercial development pipeline and federal facilities including Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories, while Santa Fe and Las Cruces see steady demand from government and education construction projects in their respective regions.
Are there remote construction project manager jobs in New Mexico?
Yes, but they're rare. About 22% of construction project manager openings tied to New Mexico are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how site-dependent the role is by nature. The functions most likely to allow partial remote work are pre-construction planning, estimating, and contract administration rather than active site supervision.
How can I get hired as a construction project manager in New Mexico with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a field or office support role such as project coordinator, assistant superintendent, or construction estimator with a firm already operating in New Mexico. Large contractors like Jaynes Corporation and Hensel Phelps routinely bring on project engineers who grow into manager roles. Pursuing an Associate Constructor credential through the American Institute of Constructors while building a project portfolio strengthens a candidate's case significantly in the New Mexico market.
Where can I find and apply to construction project manager jobs in New Mexico?
You can find and apply to construction project manager jobs in New Mexico on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
