Consultant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a consultant in New York?
Most consultant roles in New York require at minimum a bachelor's degree, with hiring firms in finance and management consulting strongly preferring degrees in business, economics, engineering, or a related discipline. New York does not require a general state license to work as a business or management consultant, though roles in specific fields such as public accounting or engineering require New York state licensure through the relevant board. Building a track of project work, client-facing experience, and industry credentials like the PMP or CFA strengthens a candidacy significantly.
How much do consultants make in New York?
Consultants in New York earn a median of about $112,250 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,900 for the lowest 10% to over $209,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire consultants in New York?
Employers hiring consultants in New York right now include EY, Alvarez & Marsal, and Capgemini, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global financial institutions, Fortune 500 headquarters, and major technology firms makes it one of the deepest markets in the country for consulting talent at every level.
Which New York cities have the most consultant jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Albany have the most consultant openings in New York. New York City dominates because it is home to global financial services firms, major consulting partnerships, and the U.S. headquarters of numerous multinational corporations, while White Plains and Albany generate demand through regional corporate offices, state government advisory work, and healthcare system clients.
Are there remote consultant jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 32% of consultant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on analysis, strategy development, and client communication rather than on-site presence. Strategy, IT, and financial advisory consulting roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while implementation and operations consulting roles more often require client-site presence.
How can I get hired as a consultant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an analyst or associate program at a large consulting firm or financial institution, where structured training is built into the role. Firms such as Deloitte, EY, and PricewaterhouseCoopers run dedicated New York new-graduate and campus hiring programs each year. Lateral moves from roles like financial analyst, project coordinator, or business operations specialist are common entry points. Earning a relevant credential such as the PMP or passing CFA Level I gives candidates a measurable edge when competing without years of direct consulting experience.
Where can I find and apply to consultant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to consultant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
