Contract Nurse RN Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a contract nurse rn in New York?
You start by earning a nursing degree, either an associate degree in nursing or a bachelor of science in nursing, then passing the NCLEX-RN exam. New York requires licensure through the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions before you can practice. Once licensed, most contract positions ask for at least one year of clinical experience in a relevant specialty before a staffing agency or hospital system will place you on a contract assignment.
How much do contract nurse RNs make in New York?
Contract nurse RNs in New York earn a median of about $109,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,760 for the lowest 10% to over $157,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire contract nurse rns in New York?
Employers hiring contract nurse rns in New York right now include CENTSTONE SERVICES, Intuites, and Startekk, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense network of large academic medical centers and regional health systems creates consistent demand for contract nurses across all specialties and boroughs.
Which New York cities have the most contract nurse rn jobs?
Utica, Rochester, and Watertown have the most contract nurse rn openings in New York. New York City drives the largest share of postings because of its concentration of flagship academic medical centers and Level I trauma centers, while Buffalo and Albany anchor demand in their regions through large health systems like Kaleida Health and Albany Medical Center Health System.
Are there remote contract nurse rn jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Nursing is a hands-on clinical role, so the large majority of contract positions require on-site presence at a hospital, clinic, or care facility. About 0% of contract nurse rn openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be in utilization review, case management, or telehealth triage rather than direct bedside care.
How can I get hired as a contract nurse rn in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is applying to a new graduate residency program, which many large New York health systems run specifically to place newly licensed RNs in their first clinical year. Northwell Health, NYU Langone, and NewYork-Presbyterian all operate structured residency programs that prepare new grads for independent practice. Completing your NCLEX-RN promptly and earning a New York State RN license through the Office of the Professions before you apply strengthens your candidacy considerably for these programs.
