Controller Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a controller in Utah?
Most controller roles in Utah require a CPA license issued or recognized by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, along with a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Candidates typically complete the Uniform CPA Exam through the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy and accumulate several years of public accounting or corporate accounting experience before moving into a controller role. Industry-specific experience in technology, healthcare, or financial services is a common differentiator in the Utah market.
Which companies hire controllers in Utah?
Utah controller roles are posted by Jobot, Hays, and Graco and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's mix of technology headquarters along the Wasatch Front, large healthcare networks, and regional financial institutions keeps demand for controllers active across multiple industries year-round.
Which Utah cities have the most controller jobs?
Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Provo account for the largest share of controller openings in Utah. Salt Lake City anchors demand through its concentration of corporate headquarters, hospital systems, and financial services firms, while Provo reflects the growth of Utah County's technology and software sector, and Ogden draws from manufacturing, logistics, and government-adjacent employers in the northern Wasatch Front corridor.
Are there remote controller jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most finance roles, since controller work is primarily desk-based and systems-driven. About 30% of controller openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting employer flexibility for candidates who can manage close cycles and team oversight without being on-site daily. Financial reporting, consolidation review, and policy oversight tend to be the most remote-compatible parts of the role.
How can I get hired as a controller in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a staff accountant or senior accountant at a Utah public accounting firm or a mid-size corporate accounting department, then building toward an assistant controller role. Large Utah employers like Intermountain Health and Utah's university systems run structured new-graduate accounting programs that develop close and reporting skills directly. Sitting for the CPA exam early and gaining experience with ERP systems used widely in Utah, such as NetSuite or Oracle, gives candidates a measurable edge when applying for first controller roles.
Where can I find and apply to controller jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to controller jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and target industry, and apply directly to whichever fit your background.
