Controller Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a controller in Ohio?
Most Ohio employers require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, several years of progressive accounting experience, and a CPA license issued or recognized by the Accountancy Board of Ohio. The CPA credential is the single most important qualification: candidates sit for the Uniform CPA Examination and meet Ohio's education and experience requirements before licensure. Many Ohio controllers also hold an MBA or CMA designation to advance into senior roles.
Which companies hire controllers in Ohio?
Employers hiring controllers in Ohio right now include Jobot, Augmentis, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's dense mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, large hospital systems, and regional manufacturers keeps controller demand broad and consistent across the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most controller jobs?
Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati are the Ohio cities with the most controller openings. Columbus leads because it is home to major insurance, retail, and financial services headquarters, Cleveland draws demand from its large healthcare systems and industrial base, and Cincinnati benefits from the concentration of consumer goods and logistics companies anchored by employers such as Procter & Gamble and Kroger.
Are there remote controller jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of controller openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how thoroughly the role moved to digital workflows and cloud-based ERP systems. Financial reporting, budgeting, and consolidation work translates well to remote settings, while treasury operations and audit coordination tend to require at least some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a controller in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff or senior accountant role at a mid-size Ohio manufacturer or regional healthcare organization, where you can own the close process and gain exposure to financial reporting. Large Ohio employers such as OhioHealth, JobsOhio-funded manufacturers, and regional CPA firms run rotational finance programs and structured mentorship tracks that build the skills controllers need. Earning the CPA license while working in public accounting gives candidates the clearest edge when applying for their first controller position.
Where can I find and apply to controller jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to controller jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
