PURPOSE
Coordinate and direct student management in support of the Code of Conduct; coordinate student disciplinary processes, safety programs and functions in support of transportation operations and activities; coordinate communications, student management training for bus drivers and bus assistants, initial response to bus accidents and dissimulation of information to assure the safe and secure transportation of students on district buses; coordinate the schedule of assigned personnel and supervise their performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Four years in student transportation, or related field preferred.
- Strong, computer, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
- Work effectively with all individuals, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions.
- Expert knowledge of Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) transportation laws, FMCSA regulations, and industry best practices. Must possess (or obtain within 180 days) and maintain a valid Indiana Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class B, School Bus (S), and Passenger (P) endorsements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop, coordinate and direct strategies to manage student conduct and create an environment on district school buses and at bus stops to positively affect the order, safety and rights of all students.
- Coordinate communications with transportation staff, school and district administrators, parents and community regarding student discipline to assure compliance with the Code of Conduct and District policies.
- Coordinate and facilitate in-service training for bus drivers, bus assistants and transportation office staff. Provide direction and guidance for working with student conduct, parents, general public and safety and security concerns.
- Develop and implement strategies for safety, security, and possible disasters related to school buses and transportation facilities. Train all transportation personnel on these strategies.
- Coordinate and facilitate communications with the District Security Department, City, County, and State Law Enforcement Agencies as it relates to the safety and security of students, staff and school buses.
- Coordinate with Transportation Security and Student Management Mobile Officers.
- Coordinate, develop and manage procedures for response to all bus accidents and student medical emergencies that occur on the bus.
- Develop, coordinate and direct procedures for responding to disastrous weather conditions. Assist with monitoring and evaluating weather conditions related to school closure consideration.
- Foster a professional environment focused on accountability and student-centric service.
- Ensure timely and appropriate resolution of transportation conflicts, students behavior issues, and driver concerns.
- Assist in the training of new drivers and continuous professional learning for bus drivers and assistants
- Conduct observation rides to assess driver performance and safety practices; provide ongoing training and coaching as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

- Outdoor Work: Tolerance of work outside in various weather conditions.
