Data Management Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data management specialist in Texas?
Most Texas employers require a bachelor's degree in information management, computer science, or a related field as the foundation. There is no state-issued license specific to this role in Texas, but certifications like the Certified Data Management Professional credential from DAMA International carry real weight with Texas hiring managers. Building hands-on experience with SQL, data governance tools, and a demonstrable project portfolio strengthens applications considerably in the Texas market.
How much do data management specialists make in Texas?
Data management specialists in Texas earn a median of about $114,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,950 for the lowest 10% to over $161,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data management specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring data management specialists in Texas right now include LTIMindtree, NTT DATA, and ABB, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, large hospital networks, and financial services firms means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than clustering in a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most data management specialist jobs?
Austin, Plano, and Houston account for the largest share of data management specialist openings in Texas. Houston's dominance reflects its energy sector headquarters and large medical center employment base, Dallas draws from financial services and corporate technology operations, and Austin's growing technology industry has steadily added data-focused roles across mid-size and enterprise employers.
Are there remote data management specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, since data management specialist work is primarily desk-based and system-oriented rather than requiring physical presence. About 25% of data management specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting broad employer comfort with distributed data teams. Roles focused on data governance policy, metadata management, and reporting tend to be the most remote-eligible.
How can I get hired as a data management specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a data analyst or database administrator associate role at a large Texas employer, which builds the core SQL and governance skills hiring managers expect. Texas health systems like HCA Houston Healthcare and large state agencies often post junior data coordinator or data quality analyst positions that serve as structured entry points. Earning a foundational certification such as the DAMA Certified Data Management Professional associate tier, or completing a portfolio project demonstrating a data cleaning and governance workflow, gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to data management specialist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to data management specialist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to each one through the listing.
