Deputy Attorney General Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a deputy attorney general in Ohio?
You must hold a Juris Doctor degree and be admitted to the Ohio bar through the Ohio Supreme Court's Board of Bar Examiners, which administers the Ohio bar exam. Most positions within the Ohio Attorney General's Office require active Ohio bar admission before a start date, though attorneys admitted in other states may apply and sit for the Ohio bar concurrently. Relevant litigation, public sector, or subject-matter experience in areas like Medicaid fraud or environmental law strengthens a candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire deputy attorney generals in Ohio?
Companies currently hiring deputy attorney generals in Ohio include Core specialty, M.C. Dean, and State of Ohio, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Beyond private employers, the Ohio Attorney General's Office and county-level prosecutors' offices across the state remain among the most active and stable sources of deputy attorney general openings in Ohio.
Which Ohio cities have the most deputy attorney general jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland have the most deputy attorney general openings in Ohio. Columbus dominates because it is home to the Ohio Attorney General's Office and the bulk of state agency legal departments, while Cleveland and Cincinnati generate consistent demand through their large county prosecutors' offices, regional state agency offices, and the concentration of regulated industries and healthcare systems that require ongoing government legal oversight.
Are there remote deputy attorney general jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. Deputy attorney general work is heavily courtroom- and office-based, involving in-person hearings, client meetings, and agency coordination that limit full remote arrangements. About 29% of deputy attorney general openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those flexible arrangements are most likely to appear in appellate, policy, or transactional roles rather than active criminal prosecution or trial litigation positions.
How can I get hired as a deputy attorney general in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a law clerk or assistant attorney general position through the Ohio Attorney General's Office, which recruits new law graduates and recent bar admittees into structured entry-level roles in divisions such as collections enforcement, health and human services, and general government counsel. Ohio's large county prosecutors' offices, including those in Franklin, Cuyahoga, and Hamilton counties, also hire associate-level attorneys from whom deputy-level appointments are made internally. Passing the Ohio bar exam promptly and gaining any clinical or externship experience in public law during law school makes a candidate significantly more competitive.
Where can I find and apply to deputy attorney general jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to deputy attorney general jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level, practice area, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
