Development Director Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a development director in Utah?
Most development directors in Utah reach the role by combining a bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, or business with several years of progressively responsible fundraising experience. Utah does not require a state-issued license for this role, but earning credentials such as the Certified Fund Raising Executive designation through CFRE International strengthens candidacy significantly. Large Utah nonprofits and universities typically promote internally from major gifts officer or development manager positions.
Which companies hire development directors in Utah?
Companies currently hiring development directors in Utah include Associa, Pattern, and Ryder System, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's dense concentration of hospital systems, universities, and large faith-affiliated nonprofits makes it one of the more active states for development leadership hiring year-round.
Which Utah cities have the most development director jobs?
Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Logan have the most development director openings in Utah. Salt Lake City drives the largest share of postings given its density of hospital systems, universities, and statewide nonprofits, while Provo's concentration of higher education institutions and Ogden's growing healthcare and social services sector account for strong hiring in those corridors.
Are there remote development director jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since relationship-intensive donor work and board engagement often require an in-person presence. About 69% of development director openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The parts of the role most amenable to remote work include grant writing, reporting, and donor research, while major donor meetings and events typically require local availability.
How can I get hired as a development director in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting in a development coordinator or annual fund associate role at a large Utah institution such as Intermountain Health, the University of Utah, or one of the many Wasatch Front nonprofits that run formal fundraising teams. From there, lateral moves into major gifts or grant writing build the portfolio that Utah employers look for in director candidates. Earning the CFRE credential or completing a certificate in nonprofit management through Utah Valley University or Westminster University accelerates advancement for candidates without deep experience.
Where can I find and apply to development director jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to development director jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings in one place. Search for roles that match your experience level and area of focus, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
