Development Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a development manager in Utah?
The path to a development manager role in Utah typically begins with several years as a software engineer or senior developer before moving into a team lead position. Utah does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers in the Salt Lake City and Lehi tech corridor generally expect a bachelor's degree in a technical field, a portfolio of shipped products, and experience mentoring engineers, often validated through internal promotion or a formal management track at a mid-size Utah technology company.
How much do development managers make in Utah?
Development managers in Utah earn a median of about $134,890 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,920 for the lowest 10% to over $225,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire development managers in Utah?
Employers hiring development managers in Utah right now include Western Governors University, eBay, and EmployBridge, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's concentration of technology headquarters and healthcare IT divisions means demand is spread across both established enterprises and fast-growing software companies in the Wasatch Front region.
Which Utah cities have the most development manager jobs?
Salt Lake City, Draper, and Lehi account for the largest share of development manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City drives volume through its mix of corporate headquarters and healthcare systems, while Provo and Lehi, often called Silicon Slopes, concentrate demand among technology companies and SaaS firms that have planted their headquarters or major engineering offices there.
Are there remote development manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 59% of development manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on meetings, code reviews, and planning rather than physical presence. The parts of the role most commonly done remotely are sprint planning, one-on-ones, and cross-functional alignment with distributed product teams.
How can I get hired as a development manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a senior individual contributor role into a team lead or engineering lead position at a Utah technology employer that promotes from within. Companies in the Silicon Slopes corridor, including software firms based in Lehi and Draper, regularly run internal leadership development programs for senior engineers. Building toward a Project Management Professional credential or completing a formal agile certification strengthens a candidacy, and lateral moves from roles such as technical lead, scrum master, or senior software engineer are the most common doors into a first development manager title.
Where can I find and apply to development manager jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to development manager jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles that match your background and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No profile creation is required to see the listings.
