Position Information
Hiring Department: Student Engagement & Leadership Center
Reports To: Assistant Director
Job Location: El Paso, TX; On-site
Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.
Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends
FLSA status: Exempt
Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.
Salary: $48,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Position Summary
Manages and coordinates activities of personnel involved in performing internal operations within a department.
Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and assesses comprehensive leadership development programs, initiatives, and educational experiences that support student engagement, leadership capacity building, academic success, and retention.
- Oversees the administration and continuous improvement of the Miners Leadership Initiative, including curriculum development, program delivery, participant engagement, assessment, and strategic planning aligned with departmental and institutional goals.
- Designs and facilitates leadership development workshops, trainings, and educational experiences utilizing current leadership, student development, and learning theories to promote student growth and success.
- Collaborates with faculty, academic colleges, departments, and university administration to develop and implement leadership-focused, high-impact, and co-curricular learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Manages the Distinguished Leadership Speaker Series, including speaker recruitment, event planning, contract coordination, logistics, marketing, and assessment to provide meaningful engagement opportunities for the campus community.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive leadership development framework that outlines leadership programs, events, initiatives, and involvement opportunities available to students throughout their UTEP experience.
- Assists with the development, implementation, and assessment of student learning outcomes and program evaluation measures to determine program effectiveness, student learning, and leadership competency development.
- Collaborates with the Coordinator of Student Organizations and campus partners to provide leadership education, training, and development opportunities for registered student organization leaders and advisors.
- Provides leadership and oversight for major departmental initiatives, including serving as chair or co-chair of planning committees for the Miners Leadership Summit, Leadership Awards, and other leadership-focused events.
- Serves as primary advisor to the National Society of Leadership and Success chapter and provides guidance, mentorship, and organizational support to student leaders and members.
- Acts as a liaison between the department and internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaborative partnerships that advance student engagement and leadership development initiatives.
- Coordinates program logistics, budget expenditures, contracts, purchasing, marketing, event planning, and administrative processes related to leadership programs and special events.
- Collects, analyzes, and reports program participation, assessment data, and outcomes to support strategic planning, accreditation efforts, and departmental reporting requirements.
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees, interns, and volunteers supporting leadership programs and departmental initiatives.
- Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with the Clery Act and fulfills all associated reporting responsibilities.
- Participates in departmental, divisional, and university-wide committees, professional development opportunities, conferences, and trainings to remain current on best practices in student affairs and leadership education.
- Represents the department at university-sponsored events, including but not limited to Texas Western Gold Rush, Minerpalooza, Orange & Blue Day, Commencement, and Project Move.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel as necessary to support departmental programs and university initiatives.
- Understands and supports the department's role in accomplishing the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the University.
- Maintains proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and institutional software systems necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
- Complies with all federal, state, university, and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Occasional traveling required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies, and applicable laws.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
and
Experience: 3 years of related experience and/or training to the essential duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- At least 5 years of professional experience working in higher education or related field in education and related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; knowledge of student development theory; knowledge of leadership education curriculum; knowledge of peer to peer mentoring models; demonstrated experience working with student organizations and program development.
