The Gainesville Regional Utilities Water/Wastewater Engineering Department is seeking a Data Analytics Student Intern to support engineering and operations staff across Water & Wastewater Systems. The intern will help compile and analyze large datasets on infrastructure, operations, and maintenance and will modify and develop reports, visualizations, and dashboards that turn complex data into clear, usable information for decision-making. This paid internship offers a valuable opportunity for a student to gain experience applying data analysis to real challenges while collaborating with engineers and industry experts. This is an in-person position and remote work is not offered.
This role is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in data science, statistics, computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field who is analytical, detail-oriented, and dependable. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with large and sometimes messy datasets, identifying trends, and presenting findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. They should be willing to take initiative across a variety of assignments and interested in learning how data informs the planning, operation, and maintenance of utility infrastructure.
The internship requires that the student be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, scheduled in blocks of at least four hours, and committed to working for at least two consecutive semesters, with a one or more-year commitment preferred.

- Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including the Mayor, City Commissioners, and members of the public.
- May attend business meetings and networking events.

- Assist with normal office duties such answering phone inquiries, directing calls, and providing basic company information; oversee mail deliveries, packages, and couriers.
- Provide clerical support by taking memos, maintaining files, and organizing documents; photocopy, fax, scan as needed.

Education
- Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma; and must be enrolled in an institution of higher learning as a student working toward the completion of an associate, or bachelor degree in a related field.
