Position Summary

Aslan Castle Early Learning Center is seeking a dependable, organized, and motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Director Trainee.

This is a hands-on position combining classroom responsibilities with training in childcare center operations and administration.

The Assistant Director Trainee will work closely with the Center Director to support daily operations, assist teachers, maintain classroom quality, communicate with families, and learn administrative procedures.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, demonstrates initiative, and has the potential to develop strong leadership skills.

This is not a desk-only position. The successful candidate must be comfortable spending a significant portion of the workday in classrooms while assisting with the overall operation of the center.

Key ResponsibilitiesClassroom Support

• Provide classroom coverage as needed to maintain appropriate supervision and staffing ratios.
• Assist teachers with daily routines, classroom management, and educational activities.
• Model positive interactions and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.
• Help maintain organized, safe, and engaging learning environments.
• Support classroom transitions, meal periods, and other daily activities.

Daily Operations

• Assist the Center Director with staff scheduling and classroom assignments.
• Help coordinate coverage for employee absences and unexpected staffing changes.
• Monitor classroom routines and communicate operational concerns to the director.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures.
• Help ensure classrooms have necessary supplies and materials.

Administrative Training

• Learn enrollment procedures and assist with prospective family tours.
• Assist with attendance records and administrative paperwork.
• Learn the center's childcare management software.
• Help maintain accurate records and required documentation.
• Assist with monitoring compliance with center policies and Virginia childcare licensing requirements.

Staff and Family Support

• Serve as a positive example of professionalism and teamwork.
• Help new employees become familiar with classroom procedures.
• Communicate respectfully with parents and staff.
• Assist with routine family questions and concerns, referring sensitive matters to the director.
• Help identify classroom challenges and recommend practical solutions.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience working with young children, preferably in a licensed childcare setting.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children, families, and coworkers.
• Willingness to learn administrative and leadership responsibilities.
• Ability to multitask and adjust to changing daily needs.
• Must meet applicable Virginia childcare employment and background check requirements.

Preferred

• One or more years of experience in a licensed childcare center.
• Experience as a lead teacher or classroom supervisor.
• Coursework or training in early childhood education.
• Experience with childcare management software.

Training and Development

The Assistant Director Trainee will receive hands-on training in center operations, staff coordination, family communication, enrollment, licensing compliance, and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities will increase as the employee demonstrates competency, sound judgment, reliability, and leadership potential.

Performance and progress will be reviewed during the first 90 days of employment.

Compensation

Starting wage: $14.50 per hour

This position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in early childhood education leadership while remaining actively involved in classroom operations.
