Elementary Teacher Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an elementary teacher in Arizona?
To become an elementary teacher in Arizona, you need a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and must complete an Arizona-approved educator preparation program that includes a supervised student teaching component. After graduation, you apply for an Arizona teaching certificate through the Arizona Department of Education, which requires passing the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments for your grade band and subject area. You also need a valid IVP fingerprint clearance card before being placed in any classroom.
How much do elementary teachers make in Arizona?
Elementary teachers in Arizona earn a median of about $56,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,370 for the lowest 10% to over $79,470 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire elementary teachers in Arizona?
Employers hiring elementary teachers in Arizona right now include Tucson Unified School District, Mesa Public Schools - AZ, and American Leadership Academy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arizona's large public school districts, growing charter networks, and federally funded Title I programs generate consistent year-round openings across the state.
Which Arizona cities have the most elementary teacher jobs?
Tucson, Phoenix, and Mesa have the most elementary teacher openings in Arizona. Phoenix anchors the highest volume because of its concentration of large unified school districts and charter networks, while Tucson and Mesa draw steady demand from their own major district systems and the population growth that continues to push enrollment higher in both metro areas.
Are there remote elementary teacher jobs in Arizona?
Yes, but they're rare. Elementary teaching is fundamentally an in-person role, and the large majority of openings require daily classroom presence. About 0% of elementary teacher openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to be in virtual charter schools or specialized online intervention and tutoring programs rather than traditional district classrooms.
How can I get hired as an elementary teacher in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through an Arizona district's alternative or resident educator pathway, which allows candidates who hold a bachelor's degree to teach while completing certification requirements. Large Arizona school districts including Mesa Public Schools and Tucson Unified run structured residency and mentorship programs for new educators. Starting as a paraprofessional, instructional aide, or student teacher within a district also builds the classroom experience hiring managers look for, and completing the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments early signals readiness even without years in a lead role.
Where can I find and apply to elementary teacher jobs in Arizona?
You can find and apply to elementary teacher jobs in Arizona on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from districts and schools across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and grade-level focus, and apply directly to the positions that match.
