The Vision: My North Star Learning (MNSL) is a small, innovative, inclusive microschool serving neurodiverse children in PreK4 thru early elementary in Southwest Austin. Inspired by Reggio-Emilia practices, our educational approach blends play-based, and project-based, and nature-immersed learning with a deep commitment to social-emotional growth.

We believe regulation comes before academics, connection comes before correction, and that children learn best when they feel safe, connected, supported, and appropriately challenged. Our mission is to integrate foundational academics with individualized instruction, sensory support, regular movement, and hands-on outdoor exploration.

The Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced, creative, and self-motivated Lead Teacher who can balance nurturing, trust-based relationships with purposeful academic instruction and measurable student growth.

The ideal candidate combines strong instructional skills with the flexibility, patience, initiative, and confidence to engage both neurotypical and neurodivergent learners in a mixed-age, mixed-ability classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess each student's academic and developmental abilities to determine appropriate instructional placement, learning levels, and individualized goals
• Design, plan, and lead engaging daily learning experiences and purposeful instruction in foundational academics (ELA, Math, Science & Social Studies) and enrichment activities (art, music, gardening, cooking) in a mixed
• Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to each student's academic, developmental and sensory needs (including Autism & ADHD learners)
• Differentiate instruction to effectively teach students of varying ages, abilities, and learning levels within a mixed-age classroom
• Creatively adapt instruction to engage learners with diverse abilities while encouraging meaningful academic progress
• Incorporate play-based, project-based, multi-sensory, and nature-enriched learning into daily instruction
• Support emotional regulation, positive behavior, and classroom participation through compassionate, developmentally appropriate strategies
• Monitor, assess, and document student learning and progress toward individualized goals, adjusting instruction as needed
• Proactively identify classroom materials, resources, and instructional needs
• Build strong, trusting and collaborative relationships with students, families, and ABA/OT/PT/ST providers

Qualifications & Ideal Candidate:

• Texas SPED Teaching Certification preferred, or strong background teaching early childhood/elementary students including autistic and ADHD learners
• Heart-led, patient, intuitive, dependable, calm under pressure, creative, and self-motivated
• Experience teaching in mixed-age, mixed-ability classrooms and differentiating instruction
• Strong foundational academic instructional skills, including student assessment, individualized learning plans, and progress monitoring
• Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, and emotional regulation challenges
• Self-motivated, proactive, organized, collaborative, with strong classroom leadership and communication skills

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 per week
