Teaching Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a teaching in Texas?
To become a teacher in Texas, you need a bachelor's degree and a Texas teaching certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency. Candidates complete an approved educator preparation program, then pass the relevant Texas Examinations of Educator Standards for their grade level and subject area. After passing, you apply for certification through the Texas Education Agency's online portal. Some districts also accept candidates enrolled in an alternative certification program while they complete the classroom requirements.
Which companies hire teachings in Texas?
Employers hiring teachings in Texas right now include Spring Independent School District, IDEA Public Schools, and Harmony Public Schools, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's size and growth mean both large urban independent school districts and expanding charter networks such as KIPP Texas and YES Prep maintain consistent hiring pipelines throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most teaching jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas have the most teaching openings in Texas, driven by the sheer size of their independent school districts and surrounding suburban systems, with Houston and Dallas each anchoring some of the largest public school districts in the nation, while San Antonio's growth has made it one of the most active hiring markets for bilingual and special education teachers in the state.
Are there remote teaching jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're limited. About 2% of teaching openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most classroom instruction requires an in-person presence. The roles most likely to be fully remote are online curriculum developers, virtual school instructors through platforms operated by Texas-based charter or homeschool networks, and certain special education support or coaching positions.
How can I get hired as a teaching in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in an alternative certification program, which lets you teach in a Texas classroom while finishing your certification requirements. Large Texas districts including Houston ISD and Dallas ISD run their own alternative certification pathways and actively recruit candidates with strong subject-matter backgrounds. Substituting or working as an instructional aide first builds classroom experience and often leads to a full-time offer. Completing your Texas Examinations of Educator Standards early and securing any endorsement in a shortage area such as special education or bilingual instruction gives candidates a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to teaching jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to teaching jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from districts and schools across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your certification, grade level, and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
