Engineering Program Manager Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering program manager in Minnesota?
Engineering program managers in Minnesota are not required to hold a state-issued license, but most employers expect a bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field alongside a recognized credential such as the Project Management Professional certification. Candidates typically move into the role after several years in engineering, systems, or technical project roles. Minnesota's medical device and aerospace sectors often favor candidates with domain-specific experience in regulated product development environments.
How much do engineering program managers make in Minnesota?
Engineering program managers in Minnesota earn a median of about $172,130 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $128,430 for the lowest 10% to over $223,540 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering program managers in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring engineering program managers in Minnesota include General Dynamics Mission Systems, Integer, and Thrivent, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and major defense and medical technology operations means engineering program manager openings appear consistently year-round, not just in hiring peaks.
Which Minnesota cities have the most engineering program manager jobs?
Bloomington, Plymouth, and Minneapolis account for the largest share of engineering program manager openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives the bulk of demand through its dense cluster of corporate headquarters, medical device manufacturers, and defense contractors, while Rochester's strength reflects IBM and Mayo Clinic's substantial technology and operations footprints, and Duluth draws openings from industrial and infrastructure engineering employers in the region.
Are there remote engineering program manager jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most technical fields. About 90% of engineering program manager openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the coordination-heavy, meeting-driven nature of the role. Program oversight, stakeholder reporting, and cross-functional planning are the functions most compatible with remote arrangements, though roles tied to hardware development or regulated manufacturing often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a engineering program manager in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an associate or junior program manager role from a technical contributor position such as systems engineer, quality engineer, or product analyst. Large Minnesota employers including Medtronic and Honeywell run rotational engineering and operations programs that place early-career candidates in cross-functional project roles. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential and building experience coordinating schedules and deliverables within an existing engineering team are the steps that most consistently move candidates into their first formal program management title.
Where can I find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings across industries and metros. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to each one without creating a profile or signing up.
