The Enterprise Planning & Engineering (EP&E) Specialist is an entry-level engineering position designed to develop future technical leaders within RL Carriers. Working alongside experienced engineers, this role supports company-wide initiatives including Network Optimization, Pricing Improvement, Capacity Planning, Linehaul Optimization, and other strategic engineering projects.
Through hands-on project experience, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration, the EP&E Specialist will develop the technical and operational expertise needed to lead increasingly complex engineering initiatives.
This position is intended for individuals who are interested in building a long-term career in transportation engineering and enterprise operations. Successful candidates will receive mentorship from senior engineers and opportunities to develop technical, analytical, and project leadership skills.
Basic Information:
- Type: Specialist - Permanent
- Flexible Location - you must be able to report to the nearest RL Carriers Terminal. Cincinnati, OH/Columbus, OH/Dayton, OH/Wilmington, OH preferred.
- Must be willing to travel as needed (5-10%) Reports to: EP&E Senior Engineer(s)
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as a resource for operational problem identification, resolution, and continuous improvement to support organic growth opportunities
- Analyzes optimization and modeling to determine data required to develop project solutions
- Performs cost-benefit analyses to ensure effective use of resources and maximize return on investment
- Resolves conflicts and clarifies communications with stakeholders to maintain alignment with corporate objectives
- Develops and implements solutions to operational issues and provides recommendations for improvement Supports Business Review and Planning meetings by presenting analytical findings, recommending operational improvements, and tracking implementation results.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote)
- Exposure to Python, R, SQL, VBA, or similar coding tools for data analysis, automation, optimization or reporting is preferred
- Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases (SQL Server preferred)
- Demonstrates understanding of implementation objectives, project plans, and individual role within a project; participates in the implementation of a project; provides timely, thorough, and concise updates for area of responsibility; identifies areas of risk and properly communicates them to the project manager
- Can independently conduct standard analyses, process updates, and/or workflow changes. Interprets results of analyses and recommends solutions to address identified requirements, problems, or inefficiencies
- Leverages technological knowledge to achieve business objectives; resolves technological issues impeding work; adapts technological information, facts, or data to varying situations and recommends changes to technological approach based upon knowledge of trends and best practices Develops analytical models, reporting tools, and automation solutions that improve engineering efficiency and support operational decision-making.
