Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Athletics Communications. This is a full-time, 10-month reporting position with benefits. Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics Communications, the Assistant is responsible for promoting the College’s twenty-three varsity athletics programs, as well as fitness and recreation programs, through written, verbal and electronic communications. Primary duties include overseeing the upkeep of the Athletics Department’s website, writing press releases and game summaries, compiling in-game statistics, and cultivating communication with coaches, administrators, student-athletes and media. The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications will also maintain the College’s athletics social media platforms, play an important operations role in live game coverage, including video streams, audio broadcasts, in-game statistics and will produce and release promotional and highlight video clips.
In addition to office hours, the Assistant Director of Athletics Communications will be expected to work evenings and weekends, as required, and will travel to cover Kenyon’s teams when necessary. Other duties may be added with the addition of new technologies, and expectations within the field. It is also expected that the Assistant Director of Athletics Communications embraces the department mission of fostering learning and developing community with a focus on the values of citizenship, competition, resiliency, sportsmanship and teamwork within Kenyon’s unique campus culture.
Essential Functions:
- Strong writing and editing with the ability to convey the story of Kenyon Athletics, Fitness and Recreation.
- Competent with audio and video broadcasting work, as well as a familiarity with relevant digital equipment.
- The ability to edit video with Final Cut Pro, or other video editing software such as Adobe Premiere.
- Fluency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Excel.
- Above average experience in working with Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign and Photoshop.
- Thorough understanding of NCAA scorekeeping and statistical guidelines for a variety of sports.
- Proven experience with Stat Crew, Presto, and NCAA Live Stats software in multiple sports.
- The ability to train and supervise student staff.
- Digital photography experience and an understanding of online social media editing software, like Canva, are a plus.
Other Expectations:
- Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness and Recreation team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation at a fully residential campus housing more than 1800 undergraduate students.
- Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
- Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes.
- Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
- Assist with special projects and duties, as needed.
- Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College’s and Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation policies and procedures as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Department of Athletics’ student-athlete handbook, and the Student Affairs and College’s mission statements.

Working Conditions:
- Some lifting/moving equipment is required.
- The working schedule is not traditional nor regular: mornings, days, late evenings, and weekends are required, as may be work during college breaks.
- Travel for athletics contests, meetings and convention/caucus attendance as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Previous experience in a sports information/athletics communications office preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge in rules and statistics of the sports Kenyon offers.
