Family Medicine Jobs in Connecticut: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a family medicine in Connecticut?
To practice family medicine in Connecticut, you must hold a license issued by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board, which requires completing medical school, finishing an accredited three-year family medicine residency, and passing the USMLE or COMLEX exam series. Applicants must also obtain board certification or board eligibility through the American Board of Family Medicine. Physicians licensed in other states may apply for Connecticut licensure by endorsement if their credentials meet state standards.
How much do family medicines make in Connecticut?
Family medicines in Connecticut earn a median of about $163,930 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $86,600 for the lowest 10% to over $325,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire family medicines in Connecticut?
Employers hiring family medicines in Connecticut right now include One Medical, Yale New Haven Health, and Optum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Connecticut's large integrated health systems, federally qualified health centers, and multispecialty medical groups represent the most consistent sources of ongoing openings across the state.
Which Connecticut cities have the most family medicine jobs?
Bridgeport, Putnam, and Hartford have the most family medicine openings in Connecticut. Hartford draws the largest volume because of its concentration of hospital systems and outpatient networks, while New Haven benefits from Yale New Haven Health's broad primary care footprint, and Bridgeport reflects Fairfield County's dense population and demand for community-based care.
Are there remote family medicine jobs in Connecticut?
Yes, but they're rare. Family medicine is fundamentally a hands-on, patient-facing specialty, so the vast majority of roles require in-person presence at a clinic or hospital. About 11% of family medicine openings tied to Connecticut are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telehealth-specific panels or care management roles rather than traditional practice.
How can I get hired as a family medicine in Connecticut with little or no experience?
The most realistic path for physicians early in their careers is applying directly to residency-affiliated practices or health system employment tracks at organizations like Hartford HealthCare or Yale New Haven Health, which regularly hire new residency graduates into employed physician roles. Federally qualified health centers across Connecticut, including Community Health Center Inc., operate loan repayment programs that actively recruit new graduates. Building experience in urgent care or hospitalist coverage roles is a common lateral move that opens doors to established family medicine positions.
Where can I find and apply to family medicine jobs in Connecticut?
You can find and apply to family medicine jobs in Connecticut on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
