Finance Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance in Illinois?
Most finance roles in Illinois require at minimum a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business. For roles involving public accounting or auditing, the Illinois CPA license issued through the Illinois Board of Examiners is the standard credential, requiring education hours, the Uniform CPA Exam, and relevant experience. Investment advisory roles may require FINRA licensing. Many Illinois employers also value the CFA designation for analytical and portfolio-focused positions.
Which companies hire finances in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring finances in Illinois include AbbVie, Kraft Heinz, and Mars, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of insurance headquarters, major banks, and Fortune 500 corporate offices in the Chicago metro creates consistent, year-round demand for finance professionals at all levels.
Which Illinois cities have the most finance jobs?
Chicago, Mettawa, and Downers Grove have the most finance openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates due to its density of banks, trading firms, insurance companies, and Fortune 500 headquarters, while Naperville and Schaumburg attract significant hiring from large corporate campuses and regional financial services offices anchored in the western and northwestern suburbs.
Are there remote finance jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 84% of finance openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well analytical and reporting work translates to distributed teams. Financial planning and analysis, management reporting, and corporate accounting roles are the most commonly offered in remote or hybrid arrangements, while treasury operations and audit roles tend to require more on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a finance in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a financial analyst or accounting associate role at a large Illinois employer. Companies like Northern Trust, Discover Financial, and major Chicago-area healthcare systems such as Northwestern Medicine run structured rotational analyst and finance associate programs for recent graduates.
