Financial Accountant Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial accountant in Massachusetts?
Most financial accountant roles in Massachusetts require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and competitive candidates pursue CPA licensure through the Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy, which administers the Uniform CPA Examination and sets education and experience requirements. While CPA licensure is not mandatory for every financial accountant position, it is a strong differentiator in the Massachusetts market, particularly in financial services, healthcare systems, and public accounting firms headquartered in Boston.
How much do financial accountants make in Massachusetts?
Financial accountants in Massachusetts earn a median of about $99,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,460 for the lowest 10% to over $160,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial accountants in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring financial accountants in Massachusetts right now include RSM, The TJX Companies, and Axon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's dense concentration of financial services firms, major academic medical centers, and life sciences companies means financial accountant demand is spread across a broad and stable base of large, established organizations.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most financial accountant jobs?
The cities with the most financial accountant openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Framingham, and Quincy. Boston dominates because it is home to the state's largest financial services firms, hospital networks, and corporate headquarters, while Worcester and Cambridge generate consistent demand through their healthcare systems, research institutions, and growing biotech and life sciences sectors.
Are there remote financial accountant jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than many fields, since financial accountant work is largely desk-based and analytical rather than hands-on. About 80% of financial accountant openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the role's compatibility with distributed work. General ledger, financial reporting, and budgeting functions tend to be the most accessible remotely, while roles involving on-site audits or cash handling typically require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a financial accountant in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to staff accountant or accounts payable associate roles, which large Massachusetts employers including Mass General Brigham, Fidelity Investments, and major public accounting firms regularly post as new-graduate positions. Many Boston-area firms run structured rotational programs for candidates with a bachelor's in accounting or finance. Sitting for the CPA exam while in an entry-level role signals commitment and accelerates advancement, and candidates who build Excel and ERP proficiency through coursework or certificate programs gain a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to financial accountant jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to financial accountant jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly without any extra steps.
