Financial Consultant Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial consultant in Michigan?
You become a financial consultant in Michigan by earning a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field, then obtaining required FINRA licenses such as the Series 7 or Series 65, which are administered through FINRA and recognized statewide. Michigan does not have a separate state licensing board for financial consultants, but investment adviser representatives must register through the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services. Earning a CFP designation significantly strengthens candidacy with Michigan employers.
Which companies hire financial consultants in Michigan?
Employers hiring financial consultants in Michigan right now include EY, Plante Moran, and Ryder System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's concentration of large banks, insurance carriers, and automotive-sector corporations means recurring demand from both independent advisory firms and in-house corporate finance teams.
Which Michigan cities have the most financial consultant jobs?
Detroit, Lansing, and Southfield have the most financial consultant openings in Michigan. Detroit leads because of its dense concentration of major banks, insurance firms, and corporate headquarters tied to the automotive and manufacturing industries, while Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor draw consistent demand from regional financial institutions, university-affiliated investment offices, and a growing professional services sector.
Are there remote financial consultant jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles, since much of the analytical and planning work can be done off-site. About 75% of financial consultant openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting employer flexibility for experienced advisors. Portfolio review, financial modeling, and retirement planning work tends to be the most remote-compatible, while new client development and compliance-sensitive roles more often require an in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a financial consultant in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a financial advisor associate or client service associate role at a regional bank or wealth management firm. Comerica and Northwestern Mutual's Michigan offices run structured new-advisor training programs that bring on candidates without prior experience. Licensing support during onboarding is common. A Series 65 or SIE exam pass before applying, or prior work as a banking associate or insurance agent, gives candidates a concrete edge over other entry-level applicants.
Where can I find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings across metro areas and specialties. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
