Financial Counselor Jobs in Wyoming: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial counselor in Wyoming?
The most direct path in Wyoming is to earn a bachelor's degree in finance, counseling, social work, or a related field and then obtain a nationally recognized credential such as the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) designation through the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. Wyoming does not maintain a separate state licensing board for financial counselors, so employers rely heavily on AFC or Certified Credit Counselor credentials. Many positions in Cheyenne and Casper also accept candidates enrolled in a credential program while working under supervision.
Which companies hire financial counselors in Wyoming?
Companies currently hiring financial counselors in Wyoming include US Department of Veterans Affairs, Leidos, and City of Cheyenne, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Wyoming's mix of healthcare systems, community banks, and state social services agencies creates consistent demand across multiple employer types throughout the year.
Which Wyoming cities have the most financial counselor jobs?
Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Wyoming account for the largest share of financial counselor openings in Wyoming. Cheyenne leads as the state capital and home to major government agencies and regional banking headquarters, while Casper's concentration of healthcare facilities and Laramie's presence of the University of Wyoming and associated social services organizations drive demand in those markets.
Are there remote financial counselor jobs in Wyoming?
Yes, and they are more available than in many comparable roles, since financial counseling work is largely desk-based and conducted through phone or video sessions rather than in-person settings. About 14% of financial counselor openings tied to Wyoming are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Credit counseling, benefits planning, and student loan advisory positions are the sub-areas most likely to be offered fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a financial counselor in Wyoming with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for financial counseling assistant or case aide roles at Wyoming Department of Family Services offices in Cheyenne or Casper, where new hires learn program eligibility and client assessment under supervision. Wyoming Medical Center and community credit unions such as Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union occasionally post associate-level counselor openings for candidates still pursuing their AFC credential. Completing a financial literacy facilitation volunteer program and documenting that work as a portfolio gives candidates without paid experience a concrete edge in hiring reviews.
Where can I find and apply to financial counselor jobs in Wyoming?
You can find and apply to financial counselor jobs in Wyoming on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and preferences, and apply directly to whichever ones fit.
