Global Director Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a global director in Virginia?
The most direct path is a graduate degree in international business or a related field combined with progressive leadership roles in global operations, business development, or international program management. Virginia does not issue a state license for this role, but candidates targeting defense or federal contracting firms in Northern Virginia benefit from obtaining or maintaining a security clearance early. Deep familiarity with federal acquisition and international compliance standards strengthens candidacy considerably.
How much do global directors make in Virginia?
Global directors in Virginia earn a median of about $122,080 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,400 for the lowest 10% to over $261,060 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire global directors in Virginia?
Employers hiring global directors in Virginia right now include Capital One, Vantage Data Centers, and AECOM, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's concentration of defense contractors, federal consulting firms, and technology services companies means many of these roles involve managing international programs or overseas operations tied to government and commercial clients.
Which Virginia cities have the most global director jobs?
McLean, Arlington, and Sterling have the most global director openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's density of defense contractors, federal agencies, and multinational technology firms drives the largest share of demand, while Richmond and Virginia Beach generate openings tied to financial services headquarters, logistics operations, and international trade activity along the Atlantic corridor.
Are there remote global director jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many senior roles, given the strategic and analytical nature of global director work. About 75% of global director openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the role's reliance on meetings, reporting, and cross-regional coordination rather than physical presence. International business development and global program management functions tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get hired as a global director in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a lateral move from a related senior role such as regional manager, international operations manager, or global program lead at a Virginia-based defense contractor or technology services firm. Large Northern Virginia employers often hire directors internally from these adjacent roles. Building a portfolio of international project outcomes, pursuing a master's in international business at a Virginia institution, and developing security clearance eligibility significantly improve candidacy for this level.
Where can I find and apply to global director jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to global director jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
