Graphic Designer Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a graphic designer in Colorado?
Graphic design is not a licensed profession in Colorado, so no state-issued credential is required to work in the field. Most Colorado employers expect a bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a closely related discipline, along with a strong portfolio. Candidates without a four-year degree can enter through associate programs at Colorado community colleges or certificate programs at institutions like the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver.
How much do graphic designers make in Colorado?
Graphic designers in Colorado earn a median of about $66,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,030 for the lowest 10% to over $118,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire graphic designers in Colorado?
Employers hiring graphic designers in Colorado right now include Timberland, STIO, and TEGNA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Colorado's concentration of outdoor, lifestyle, and consumer goods brands alongside regional media and technology companies means design roles appear across a wide range of industries and team sizes.
Which Colorado cities have the most graphic designer jobs?
Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo account for the largest share of graphic designer openings in Colorado. Denver drives most of the volume as the state's commercial and media hub, with Boulder adding roles tied to its tech and natural products industries and Colorado Springs contributing through defense contractors and regional marketing firms that maintain in-house creative teams.
Are there remote graphic designer jobs in Colorado?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 63% of graphic designer openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally the work translates to distributed teams. Brand identity, digital marketing, and UX visual design roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while packaging and production-focused positions are more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a graphic designer in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a focused portfolio through freelance projects, coursework, or volunteer work with Colorado nonprofits and small businesses, then targeting junior designer or design coordinator roles at agencies and in-house teams. Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design and several Colorado State University programs connect new graduates to internships and entry-level openings. Moving laterally from roles like marketing coordinator or social media specialist at a Colorado company is another common route that leads to a full design title.
Where can I find and apply to graphic designer jobs in Colorado?
