Human Resources Intern Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources intern in Pennsylvania?
The most direct path is enrolling in a business, HR, or industrial-organizational psychology program at a Pennsylvania college or university, since most employers require active enrollment or recent graduation. Pennsylvania does not have a state-issued license for HR interns, but earning a student membership through the Society for Human Resource Management and completing relevant coursework in employment law or compensation positions candidates competitively. Many Pennsylvania universities also offer co-op or practicum programs that connect students directly with in-state employers.
Which companies hire human resources interns in Pennsylvania?
Companies currently hiring human resources interns in Pennsylvania include Free People, JLG, and Hatch, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large healthcare systems, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters means internship openings tend to be structured, full-semester or summer programs with defined HR project assignments.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most human resources intern jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Lititz have the most human resources intern openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia dominates due to its dense cluster of Fortune 500 headquarters, major hospital systems, and universities, while Pittsburgh's strength in healthcare and technology drives demand there, and Harrisburg's concentration of state government agencies and regional corporate offices sustains a steady stream of public and private sector intern roles.
Are there remote human resources intern jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields, since much HR intern work involves administrative tasks, data entry, and recruiting coordination that can be done from a computer. About 50% of human resources intern openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of most intern duties. Recruiting support and HRIS data projects tend to be the most remote-compatible functions, while onboarding coordination and employee relations work typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a human resources intern in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured summer or semester internship programs that large Pennsylvania employers run specifically for students with no prior HR experience, such as the intern cohorts at UPMC, Comcast, or state government agencies in Harrisburg. Completing coursework in employment law or organizational behavior and earning a student SHRM membership demonstrates commitment without requiring a work history. Adjacent roles like office administration, payroll assistant, or customer service at Pennsylvania companies are also recognized pathways that hiring managers frequently accept as equivalent early experience.
