Human Resources Intern Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources intern in Iowa?
Most human resources intern positions in Iowa require current enrollment in a college or university program, typically in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Iowa does not require a state-issued license to work as an HR intern, but completing coursework in employment law and labor relations strengthens your candidacy. Pursuing the SHRM Student Membership and relevant certifications signals seriousness to Iowa employers, particularly in Des Moines financial services and Cedar Rapids manufacturing sectors.
Which companies hire human resources interns in Iowa?
Iowa human resources intern roles are posted by Ruan, Kemin, and ATHENE and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Iowa's mix of financial services headquarters, large university systems, and agricultural and manufacturing firms creates consistent intern demand throughout the year.
Which Iowa cities have the most human resources intern jobs?
Des Moines, West Des Moines, and Pella account for the largest share of human resources intern openings in Iowa. Des Moines drives the most volume as the state capital and home to major financial services, insurance, and government employers, while Cedar Rapids and Iowa City benefit from large manufacturing operations, healthcare systems, and the University of Iowa's extensive administrative departments.
Are there remote human resources intern jobs in Iowa?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical fields, since HR interns often support onboarding, file management, and in-person employee relations tasks. About 33% of human resources intern openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that some employers offer flexibility for research, HRIS data, and reporting tasks. Talent acquisition and HR analytics projects are the sub-areas most likely to be performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a human resources intern in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through formal internship programs at large Iowa employers before completing your degree. Principal Financial Group, Hy-Vee, and the University of Iowa all run structured intern cohorts open to students with limited prior HR experience. Volunteering with campus SHRM chapters, completing a PHR exam prep course, or taking on an administrative assistant role at an Iowa business provides the hands-on exposure that hiring managers look for when evaluating first-time applicants.
Where can I find and apply to human resources intern jobs in Iowa?

Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your program, availability, and focus area, and apply directly to each employer.
