Learning And Development Specialist Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a learning and development specialist in North Carolina?
A bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, organizational development, or human resources is the standard starting point for learning and development specialist roles in North Carolina. No state-issued license is required, but employers across the Research Triangle Park corridor and Charlotte's financial district consistently prefer candidates who hold the ATD Certified Professional in Talent Development credential or a SHRM certification. Building a portfolio of training materials and e-learning modules significantly strengthens a candidacy.
How much do learning and development specialists make in North Carolina?
Learning and development specialists in North Carolina earn a median of about $65,250 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $33,170 for the lowest 10% to over $115,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire learning and development specialists in North Carolina?
Employers hiring learning and development specialists in North Carolina right now include Spar, MAERSK, and Skyeton, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. North Carolina's concentration of large corporate headquarters in Charlotte, research institutions in the Triangle, and major health systems statewide means steady, recurring demand from organizations that maintain dedicated L&D teams.
Which North Carolina cities have the most learning and development specialist jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, and North Carolina account for the most learning and development specialist openings in North Carolina. Charlotte leads because of its dense corporate headquarters in banking and financial services, while Raleigh and Durham benefit from the Research Triangle Park ecosystem of technology companies, universities, and health systems that all run active internal training programs.
Are there remote learning and development specialist jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields, because instructional design and e-learning development translate well to remote work. About 75% of learning and development specialist openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, reflecting how broadly organizations have adopted virtual training delivery. Roles focused on content development and LMS administration tend to be the most remote-friendly, while facilitation-heavy positions often require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a learning and development specialist in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a teaching, HR coordinator, or operations training role into a junior instructional designer or training coordinator position. Large North Carolina employers like WakeMed, UNC Health, and Duke University Health System hire training coordinators and onboarding specialists who support senior L&D teams, providing direct experience. Building a portfolio of sample modules in Articulate Storyline and earning the ATD Associate Professional in Talent Development credential helps candidates without formal experience stand out.
Where can I find and apply to learning and development specialist jobs in North Carolina?
