Learning And Development Specialist Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a learning and development specialist in Tennessee?
Most learning and development specialist roles in Tennessee require a bachelor's degree in human resources, instructional design, education, or organizational development. Tennessee does not issue a state license for this role, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold professional credentials such as the Association for Talent Development's CPTD or APTD certification. Graduates of programs at the University of Tennessee or Middle Tennessee State University who focus on workforce education are well-positioned for entry-level openings.
How much do learning and development specialists make in Tennessee?
Learning and development specialists in Tennessee earn a median of about $62,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,000 for the lowest 10% to over $116,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire learning and development specialists in Tennessee?
Employers hiring learning and development specialists in Tennessee right now include Amazon, CoreCivic, and Elmington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's large healthcare systems, logistics companies, and state government agencies maintain dedicated training teams that hire on a recurring basis throughout the year.
Which Tennessee cities have the most learning and development specialist jobs?
Nashville, Franklin, and Tennessee account for the most learning and development specialist openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its concentration of healthcare headquarters, insurance companies, and corporate regional offices, while Memphis draws consistent demand from its major logistics and distribution employers, and Knoxville is supported by the University of Tennessee system and federal contractors in the region.
Are there remote learning and development specialist jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 20% of learning and development specialist openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves content development, virtual facilitation, and LMS administration rather than in-person delivery. Roles focused on e-learning design or program management tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while positions that require on-site new-hire orientation or hands-on skills training are more likely to be fully in-person.
How can I get hired as a learning and development specialist in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from an adjacent role such as corporate trainer, HR coordinator, or classroom teacher into a junior instructional designer or training coordinator position. Large Tennessee healthcare employers like HCA Healthcare and Community Health Systems regularly hire training coordinators who build toward full specialist roles. Building a portfolio of sample e-learning modules using Articulate 360 and earning the ATD APTD credential can substitute meaningfully for direct work history when applying to Tennessee employers.
Where can I find and apply to learning and development specialist jobs in Tennessee?
