Legal Assistant Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a legal assistant in Colorado?
The most direct path is completing an accredited paralegal or legal studies program at a Colorado institution, such as those offered at the Community College of Denver or Metropolitan State University of Denver. Colorado does not require a state-issued license to work as a legal assistant, but employers strongly prefer candidates who hold a National Association of Legal Assistants certification or a similar credential. Gaining experience through internships at Front Range law firms accelerates hiring significantly.
Which companies hire legal assistants in Colorado?
Colorado legal assistant roles are posted by State of Colorado, New Leaf Family, and Fox Rothschild LLP and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Colorado's mix of large energy companies, government contractors, and regional law firms creates consistent demand for legal assistants with backgrounds in corporate, regulatory, and litigation work.
Which Colorado cities have the most legal assistant jobs?
Denver, Colorado Springs, and Boulder have the most legal assistant openings in Colorado. Denver dominates because it is home to the state's largest concentration of law firms, corporate headquarters, and government agencies, while Colorado Springs draws demand from defense contractors and El Paso County legal offices, and Boulder's tech and biotech sectors generate steady corporate and IP-related legal work.
Are there remote legal assistant jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since legal assistants frequently handle physical filings, notarizations, and in-person court support. About 41% of legal assistant openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with most of those roles focused on document review, contract administration, or corporate compliance rather than litigation support.
How can I get hired as a legal assistant in Colorado with little or no experience?
Applying to law clerk or legal secretary roles at mid-size Denver law firms is the most realistic entry point, since those positions regularly transition into legal assistant responsibilities. The Community College of Denver and Arapahoe Community College both offer legal studies certificates that Colorado employers recognize as a qualifying credential. Large in-house legal departments at state agencies and healthcare systems like UCHealth also hire entry-level legal assistants who demonstrate strong organizational and writing skills from adjacent administrative roles.
Where can I find and apply to legal assistant jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to legal assistant jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current Colorado openings. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
