Legal Counsel Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a legal counsel in Georgia?
To work as in-house legal counsel in Georgia you must hold an active law license through the State Bar of Georgia, which requires passing the Georgia Bar Examination or qualifying for admission by motion if licensed in another jurisdiction. Most roles also require a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited school. Beyond licensure, employers typically expect prior law firm or in-house experience in a practice area relevant to their industry before hiring into a counsel role.
How much do legal counsels make in Georgia?
Legal counsels in Georgia earn a median of about $134,830 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,750 for the lowest 10% to over $317,820 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire legal counsels in Georgia?
Employers hiring legal counsels in Georgia right now include The Coca-Cola Company, Cennox, and Qcells, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Georgia's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and large healthcare systems means in-house legal teams here are among the most active in the Southeast.
Which Georgia cities have the most legal counsel jobs?
Atlanta, Alpharetta, and Duluth have the most legal counsel openings in Georgia. Atlanta leads by a wide margin because it is home to the headquarters of major corporations, financial institutions, and hospital networks that maintain large in-house legal departments, while Savannah and Augusta contribute openings driven by manufacturing, port-related commerce, and regional healthcare employers.
Are there remote legal counsel jobs in Georgia?
Yes, and more than most legal roles. About 100% of legal counsel openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based, document-heavy nature of in-house counsel work. Contract review, compliance advisory, and privacy counsel positions are the sub-areas most likely to offer fully remote arrangements, while roles requiring regular court appearances or on-site executive collaboration tend to be in-person or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a legal counsel in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a Georgia law firm or a large employer's legal department as a staff attorney or associate counsel after passing the Georgia Bar. Major Atlanta-area employers, including healthcare systems and financial services companies, regularly hire newly admitted attorneys into rotational or junior counsel programs. Lateral moves from paralegal or legal operations roles can also open doors, particularly at technology and logistics companies headquartered in the Atlanta metro.
Where can I find and apply to legal counsel jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to legal counsel jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and practice area, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
