Manager - Consulting Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manager - consulting in California?
Most manager - consulting roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field, with an MBA offering a clear advantage at major firms. California has no state-issued license specific to management consulting, so the path is primarily credential and experience driven. Candidates typically progress from analyst or associate roles, build client management skills, and pursue certifications such as PMP or Lean Six Sigma to strengthen their candidacy at California's largest consulting employers.
How much do manager - consultings make in California?
Manager - consultings in California earn a median of about $101,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,360 for the lowest 10% to over $174,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire manager - consultings in California?
Employers hiring manager - consultings in California right now include KPMG, Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, and EY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of technology headquarters and financial services firms in the Bay Area and Los Angeles creates sustained year-round demand across both national consulting firms and in-house corporate strategy teams.
Which California cities have the most manager - consulting jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most manager - consulting openings in California. San Francisco and San Jose are driven by the Bay Area's technology sector, which generates constant demand for strategy and transformation consulting, while Los Angeles draws heavily from media, entertainment, and financial services clients that rely on large consulting practices with established Southern California offices.

Strategy development, financial modeling, and internal operations consulting translate well to remote delivery, though roles with intensive on-site client engagement or change management typically require in-person presence at least part of the week.
How can I get hired as a manager - consulting in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a large firm's analyst or associate program and building toward a manager title from within. Deloitte, Accenture, and KPMG all run structured associate consulting programs in California that accept candidates with strong academic records but limited professional consulting experience. Lateral moves from roles in financial analysis, project coordination, or business operations are common and respected entry points.
