Tips for Your Manager - Consulting Job Search
Quantify engagement outcomes on your resume
Consulting managers are judged on client impact, so replace vague bullets with concrete results: cost reductions, process cycle improvements, or revenue outcomes tied to your engagements. Hiring managers scan for proof you delivered, not just managed.
Tailor your resume to the engagement model
Boutique strategy firms and Big Four advisory practices look for different things. Emphasize project-based leadership and client-facing ownership for boutiques, and cross-functional teaming and methodology fluency for large advisory roles.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists manager - consulting openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by practice area focus
Manager - consulting roles vary widely by domain, from IT transformation to organizational design. Targeting openings aligned with your deepest practice area gets your application in front of the right team lead instead of a generalist recruiter.
Prepare a structured case for the case interview
Most consulting firms at the manager level still run case interviews, even for lateral hires. Refresh your MECE frameworks and practice structured problem decomposition out loud, since fluency under pressure is what separates candidates at this level.
Negotiate scope and travel before accepting
Consulting manager roles vary sharply in expected travel, from weekly client site rotations to mostly remote delivery. Clarify the engagement model and expected on-site percentage before the offer stage so the role matches your availability.
Manager - Consulting Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most manager - consultings?
The companies hiring the most manager - consultings right now include EY, Accenture, and Logic, with the largest share of openings in Illinois, Texas, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand tends to be strongest at large advisory firms, technology consultancies, and in-house strategy teams at Fortune 500 companies.
How many manager - consulting jobs are remote?
About 78% of manager - consulting openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with remote availability highest in digital transformation, IT strategy, and analytics-focused practices. Roles tied to on-site client delivery or organizational change management tend to require more in-person presence throughout the engagement lifecycle.
How do you become a manager - consulting?
Most consulting managers move up from a senior consultant or associate role after demonstrating the ability to run workstreams independently and build client relationships. Building deep expertise in a specific practice area, earning an MBA or relevant advanced degree, and developing a portfolio of measurable engagement outcomes all strengthen candidacy for the manager level.
How do you get hired as a manager - consulting with little experience?
Candidates with limited direct consulting experience can enter through adjacent roles such as internal strategy, business analysis, or project management, then lateral into consulting. Emphasizing structured problem-solving skills, client-facing work, and any project leadership experience helps bridge the gap when applying to firms that hire from outside traditional consulting pipelines.
What does the manager - consulting interview process look like?
The process typically includes a recruiter screening call, one or more behavioral interviews focused on leadership and client situations, and at least one case interview testing structured problem-solving and communication. Later-stage rounds often involve a presentation or working session with senior partners to assess how you think through ambiguous business problems and communicate recommendations.
Where can I find and apply to manager - consulting jobs?
You can find and apply to manager - consulting jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your practice area and experience level, then apply directly to each one that fits.
