Mental Health Jobs in Wyoming: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mental health professional in Wyoming?
You become a licensed mental health professional in Wyoming by completing a qualifying graduate degree and applying through the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board, which oversees credentials including the Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker designations. Most applicants must pass a national clinical exam such as the NCMHCE or ASWB, complete supervised post-graduate hours, and submit a background check before the board issues an active license.
Which companies hire mental health professionals in Wyoming?
Employers hiring mental healths in Wyoming right now include US Department of Veterans Affairs, LIV Health, and SonderMind, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Wyoming's nonprofit community mental health centers and the state's regional hospital systems are among the most consistent sources of full-time clinical openings.
Which Wyoming cities have the most mental health jobs?
Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Casper have the most mental health openings in Wyoming. Cheyenne anchors the market as the state capital and home to the largest concentration of government-funded behavioral health programs, while Casper's size and regional hospital presence drive demand in central Wyoming, and Laramie benefits from the University of Wyoming's training clinics and affiliated community providers.
Are there remote mental health jobs in Wyoming?
Yes, and more than most clinical fields, because teletherapy has become a standard delivery model for outpatient counseling. About 17% of mental health openings tied to Wyoming are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the state's investment in telehealth to reach rural and frontier populations. Outpatient therapy, case management, and crisis line positions are the roles most commonly offered fully remote.
How can I get hired as a mental health professional in Wyoming with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a behavioral health technician or mental health associate role at a community mental health center or residential facility, where direct supervision counts toward licensure hours. Wyoming Behavioral Institute in Casper and regional community mental health centers in Cheyenne and Gillette regularly bring on post-graduate associates who are working toward their licensed hours. Completing a practicum or internship at a Wyoming site while still in school gives candidates a direct introduction to hiring managers, and earning a provisional license from the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board signals readiness to supervising employers.
Where can I find and apply to mental health jobs in Wyoming?
You can find and apply to mental health jobs in Wyoming on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your license level and preferred setting, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
