NP Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a np in South Dakota?
You become an NP in South Dakota by completing an accredited graduate nursing program, passing a national certification exam through AANP or ANCC, and applying for advanced practice registered nurse licensure through the South Dakota Board of Nursing. South Dakota grants independent practice authority to licensed NPs, meaning you can practice without a required physician collaboration agreement once licensed and credentialed.
Which companies hire nps in South Dakota?
Companies currently hiring nps in South Dakota include Avera Health, Sanford Health, and Legion Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Sanford Health and Avera Health together account for a large share of NP openings statewide, with positions distributed across clinics, hospitals, and rural access sites throughout both eastern and western South Dakota.
Which South Dakota cities have the most np jobs?
Sioux Falls, Pierre, and Aberdeen have the most NP openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls drives the largest share as the state's biggest city and home to both Sanford Health and Avera Health headquarters, while Rapid City's volume reflects Monument Health's regional presence, and Aberdeen draws demand from Avera St. Luke's and the surrounding rural catchment area.
Are there remote np jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. NP work is predominantly hands-on and site-based, so most roles require in-person patient contact. About 67% of np openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to cluster in telehealth primary care or psychiatric-mental health, where video-based care delivery is most established.
How can I get hired as a np in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate NP residency or fellowship programs, which Sanford Health and Avera Health both run for newly licensed NPs transitioning from RN roles. Candidates who have worked as registered nurses in South Dakota hospitals or rural health clinics carry a practical edge because those employers already know their clinical judgment. A completed national certification and an active South Dakota APRN license are the minimum credentials that open the door to any NP position in the state.
Where can I find and apply to np jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to NP jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles that fit your specialty and experience level and apply directly to the ones that match.
