Nurse Practitioner Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse practitioner in Alaska?
You become a nurse practitioner in Alaska by earning a graduate-level NP degree, passing a national certification exam through AANP or ANCC in your specialty, and applying for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner license through the Alaska State Medical Board. Alaska grants full practice authority to licensed NPs, meaning you can assess, diagnose, prescribe, and practice without a physician collaboration agreement once licensed.
How much do nurse practitioners make in Alaska?
Nurse practitioners in Alaska earn a median of about $155,170 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $95,570 for the lowest 10% to over $207,490 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nurse practitioners in Alaska?
Alaska nurse practitioner roles are posted by International SOS, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, and LUX Infusion and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Tribal health organizations and federally qualified health centers are particularly active employers across both urban and rural Alaska communities.
Which Alaska cities have the most nurse practitioner jobs?
Anchorage, Alaska, and Juneau have the most nurse practitioner openings in Alaska. Anchorage leads because it is home to the state's largest hospital systems and tribal health headquarters, while Fairbanks and Juneau generate consistent demand through regional medical centers serving the Interior and Southeast Alaska populations.
Are there remote nurse practitioner jobs in Alaska?
Yes, but they're rare. About 25% of nurse practitioner openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which is low given how hands-on the role is. Telehealth psychiatric and primary care NP positions are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements, particularly those serving rural and bush Alaska communities.
How can I get hired as a nurse practitioner in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to NP residency or fellowship programs at large Alaska health systems, with Providence Alaska Medical Center and the Alaska Native Medical Center being the strongest starting points. New graduates who hold an Alaska Advanced Nurse Practitioner license and a specialty certification gain the clearest advantage. Lateral moves from registered nurse or certified nurse-midwife roles into entry-level NP positions at rural health clinics and tribal health organizations are also a practical route into the field.
Where can I find and apply to nurse practitioner jobs in Alaska?
You can find and apply to nurse practitioner jobs in Alaska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alaska openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your specialty and experience level, and apply directly to those positions.
