Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Montana?
Nurse practitioners and physician assistants must hold an active license issued by the Montana Board of Medical Examiners before practicing in the state. Nurse practitioners need a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited NP program and national certification from AANPCP or ANCC, while PAs must complete an accredited PA program and pass the PANCE through NCCPA. Montana also requires a collaborative practice agreement with a supervising physician for many practice settings.
Which companies hire nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Montana?
Companies currently hiring nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Montana include Billings Clinic, Empower Psychological Services, PLLC, and Community Care Partners, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's largest health systems, critical access hospitals, and Federally Qualified Health Centers in rural counties are among the most consistent sources of ongoing openings.
Which Montana cities have the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs?
Billings, Missoula, and Montana are the Montana cities with the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings. Billings leads as Montana's largest city and home to Billings Clinic and St. Vincent Healthcare, while Missoula and Great Falls draw volume from their regional hospital anchors and the University of Montana health programs that feed local hiring pipelines.
Are there remote nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 14% of nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, because most of this work requires direct patient contact in clinical settings. The roles most likely to offer remote components are telepsychiatry, telehealth urgent care, and care management positions that blend virtual visits with in-person duties.
How can I get hired as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate or residency programs at Montana's larger health systems, where Billings Clinic and Benefis Health System periodically run structured transition-to-practice programs for new NPs and PAs. Candidates who have worked as RNs, paramedics, or medical assistants often have an edge when applying to rural critical access hospitals, where multi-role experience is valued. Obtaining your Montana Board of Medical Examiners license early and completing any required collaborative practice agreement paperwork before your start date strengthens your application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty and location preferences, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
