Oil And Gas Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an oil and gas professional in Colorado?
Most oil and gas roles in Colorado require a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering, geology, environmental science, or a closely related field, and the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission sets the regulatory framework employers hire against. Petroleum engineers seeking the PE designation must pass the NCEES FE and PE exams and register with the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors. Field and technical roles often begin with an internship or junior position at a basin operator.
Which companies hire oil and gas professionals in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring oil and gass in Colorado include NEI Electric Power Engineering, Sargent & Lundy, and HDR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's Denver-Julesburg Basin and Piceance Basin draw a consistent roster of independent operators, midstream companies, and oilfield service firms that maintain year-round staffing needs across engineering, operations, and environmental roles.
Which Colorado cities have the most oil and gas jobs?
Denver, Englewood, and Lakewood are the Colorado cities with the most oil and gas openings, driven by Denver's concentration of corporate headquarters and engineering offices, Greeley's proximity to the active Weld County production zones in the Denver-Julesburg Basin, and Grand Junction's role as the hub for Piceance Basin operations and midstream infrastructure on the Western Slope.
Are there remote oil and gas jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're rare. Most oil and gas work in Colorado is tied to field sites, rigs, or physical infrastructure that requires on-site presence. About 92% of oil and gas openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are concentrated in analytical and corporate functions such as reservoir engineering, GIS analysis, environmental compliance reporting, and energy economics.
How can I get hired as an oil and gas professional in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or field technician role with a Colorado basin operator or oilfield services company, where you build direct exposure to production operations. Companies like Civitas Resources and regional midstream operators periodically run new-grad programs targeting petroleum engineering and geology graduates from Colorado School of Mines or Colorado State University. Lateral moves from environmental consulting, civil engineering, or GIS analysis also open doors, and earning an EIT certification through NCEES strengthens any early-career application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to oil and gas jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to oil and gas jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current Colorado openings from operators, midstream companies, and oilfield service firms active in the state's producing basins. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly without needing to create a profile or sign up first.
