Oncology Registered Nurse Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a oncology registered nurse in Massachusetts?
You must hold an active RN license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, which requires passing the NCLEX-RN after completing an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Most Massachusetts oncology employers strongly prefer or require a BSN. After gaining clinical experience, nurses commonly pursue the Oncology Certified Nurse credential through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation to strengthen their candidacy for specialized oncology roles.
How much do oncology registered nurses make in Massachusetts?
Oncology registered nurses in Massachusetts earn a median of about $104,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,310 for the lowest 10% to over $174,510 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire oncology registered nurses in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring oncology registered nurses in Massachusetts right now include Beth Israel Lahey Health, American Traveler, and UMass Memorial Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's dense concentration of National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers and large academic health systems means ongoing demand well beyond what smaller markets typically sustain.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most oncology registered nurse jobs?
The cities with the most oncology registered nurse openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Cambridge, and Worcester. Boston leads because of its unmatched cluster of academic medical centers and NCI-designated cancer programs, while Worcester and other cities reflect the regional presence of large health systems like UMass Memorial and Baystate Health that anchor oncology hiring outside the Greater Boston area.
Are there remote oncology registered nurse jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. Oncology nursing is a hands-on clinical role, so the vast majority of positions require on-site work in infusion centers, inpatient units, or cancer clinics. About 17% of oncology registered nurse openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The portions of the role most likely to appear in remote or hybrid arrangements are oncology care coordination, telephone triage nursing, and patient navigation.
How can I get hired as a oncology registered nurse in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a new graduate RN residency program at a major Massachusetts academic medical center, where rotations through oncology units give new nurses direct exposure and a clear pathway to placement. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and UMass Memorial run structured residency and transition-to-practice programs that accept nurses without oncology backgrounds. Starting in a medical-surgical or hematology-adjacent role and completing the OCN exam early significantly improves your candidacy for dedicated oncology positions.
Where can I find and apply to oncology registered nurse jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to oncology registered nurse jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
